About this deal

While stars may appear as though they are floating just outside of our atmosphere, the truth is that outer space is just that: space. Sure, if I were to make another Best Of 2013 List, I would slap 'Gravity at the tippity top along with 'Frozen' and 'The Wolf of Wall Street'.

Fine detailing is also brilliantly resolved and adds a wholly convincing sense of three-dimensional texture to every surface. And though 'Gravity' is cleaning up at various awards season ceremonies, I'm so, so glad Warners released this Blu-ray before the actual announcements. But just in case you haven't heard it already, the message warrants repeating: If you haven't seen Gravity yet, you owe it to yourself to experience it on the largest screen you can find, preferably one accompanied by a top shelf sound system. The scene where Clooney and Bullock are drifting apart is very similar to a moment in this earlier film.

A film so real, so transcendent, so poignant that it becomes something infinitely more remarkable than the standard Hollywood-grade entertainment it could have been. Stone begins as an everywoman -- a character we don't know very much about and, therefore, thrust our own selves onto.

Gravity deserves to be seen and as you've undoubtedly heard from others, it deserves to be seen on the biggest screen you can find. Says Parks: “I ran some tests with [director of photography] Emmanuel Lubezki using Arri Alexas on 3Ality rigs at Leavesden Studios to give Alfonso a taste for how 3D could enhance the feeling of weightlessness and how stereo could work with camera movement and lighting. The film was conceived from the very start as a 3D movie, and Cuarón and his incredible team baked that third dimension into the very DNA of their story. Suffice to say, Sandra Bullock and George Clooney play two members of a space shuttle crew servicing the Hubble Space Telescope. Later, when Stone is at her lowest, she and the Soyuz capsule are "stranded" over the frozen, glacial north.

This is a movie that screams, no matter how hard it gets, no matter how scared you become, never give in. widescreen – and, honestly, you’d be hard-pushed to find two finer looking video presentations in the charts at the moment. There are a lot of emotional shifts that go with her character and she eases well into those transitions. Though the track is wonderfully diverse in its use of silence, dynamic range, and blockbuster aggression, I have to ask the folks at Warners one question: 5.
