About this deal

There is a war taking place in Azzi's home country and her and her family must leave their home and escape to another country. I think that it is very relevant at the moment, and it would be a good book to address any ideas or misconceptions children may have about refugees. With a kind helper at the school, Azzi begins to learn English and understand that she is not the only one who has had to flee her home.

The text is so rich and would be brilliant to use in KS2 classrooms where it could be explored and enjoyed to its full potential. This was an amazing book that clearly displays the emotions and events that could take a place for a family who have to leave a country. We experience her struggles to adapt to her new life and how she copes with missing what she had to leave behind. Illustrated throughout, this heartfelt story contains so much: a family coping with bereavement, the alienation of moving somewhere new, and what it’s like when you can’t speak the language of the people around you. I would honestly recommend this book to all teachers, adults and children over a certain age/maturity. We are shown only the child’s key feelings without the distraction of discussing external situations or introducing other characters. The comic book style offers lots of pictures, allowing us to explore the details of this child’s experience.

It's not just about a perilous journey to a new country, but also her struggles with a new language and culture. The graphic novel-style picture book is heartbreaking but something children need to recognise as normal in some people's lives, even pupils in their own class. This would be perfect for a class that has a new starter in their class, or just to help a child's own moral compass. These books range from translated stories from other countries to adventues set in far-flung places. In the new country they must learn to speak a new language, find a new home and Azzi must start a new school.Azzi arrives in a new, unfamiliar country where she must learn a new language and live among strangers. This book would be great to read to a class that has children who have recently moved to England due to war in their home country. A story that follows a child named Azzi, who is forced to seek safety by fleeing her home within a war-torn country, and yet remains unstable and uncertain. Azzi In Between is an excellent cross-curricular resource that looks at asylum, war, separation and integration and what it is to be a refugee today. A smashing, Amnesty-endorsed, story of a family's escape from war and their journey to a strange new country (probably the UK).

The story follows the journey of Azzi, a young girl, forced to leave her home and country due to the dangers of war. Registered office address: Office 6 HQ Business Centre | 237 Union Street | Plymouth | PL1 3HQ | UK. But Azzi is resourceful and brave; slowly she learns how to adapt to her new life in a safe country. We follow the family through their journey the United Kingdom (un-named, but recognisable by the white cliffs of Dover) and watch Azzi adopt her new life.It shows the differences in countries and cultures, and children would be able to notice similarities and differences between Azzi's life and their own lives. However, I felt that there was greater emphasis placed upon yearning for familiarity through familial love, rather than craving the culture present in the home country.

Children's book reviews, video reviews and more Reviews and Videos Our ethos is to encourage positive, healthy development through early learning, and to help foster an awareness of living sustainably, caring for our planet and all her creatures.

Covering many genres some are great for engaging reluctant readers while others are perfect to entertain those reading above their age. It was still a very good book for kids to read to gain an understanding of what other children are going through. Drawing on her own experience of working among refugee families, Sarah Garland has created a story which will strike a chord with many who have undergone similar ordeals.
