About this deal

The campus of this “Poison Ivy League” college—its location unknown to even those who study there—is where you might find yourself the practice target of a classmate…and where one’s mandatory graduation thesis is getting away with the perfect murder of someone whose death will make the world a much better place to live.

and where one's mandatory graduation thesis is getting away with the perfect murder of someone whose death will make the world a much better place to live. The second half of the novel definitely picks up the pace as we follow the three graduates as they embark on their individual projects. With all of the detailing and overtly explaining how they all learned and planned their murders - the methods were smart, don't get me wrong - it became kind of repetitive. Set in the 1950s, the reader learns of a mysterious and exclusive college, the McMasters Conservatory for the Applied Arts. Holmes’ witticisms, tasteful and at just the right frequency, genuinely had me snorting in amusement. The writing and the overall vibe is very evocative of his style, and having Neil Patrick Harris narrate it was just *chef’s kiss* icing on the cake. A case study in the droll amusements of homicide, Rupert Holmes’s send-up of higher education and even higher crimes and misdemeanors will keep you up at night. With a final thesis before him, Cliff will have to develop the perfect plan to kill someone and ensure that he is not caught.

Books On The Boulevard is an online only bookseller specializing almost exclusively in signed, collectible, modern first edition books. Holmes describes how three students find their way to McMasters, what they experience, the classes they take, dorm life, and ultimately, their thesis. To gain admission, a student must have an ethical reason for erasing someone who deeply deserves a fate no worse (nor better) than death. And I thought to myself, 'Well, Shepherd Mead wrote “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” which was a novelty book and it became a musical. Gemma Lindley is a nurse whose odious boss, Adele Underton, is blackmailing her while taking credit for Gemma’s work. Welcome to The McMasters Conservatory for the Applied Arts – a luxurious, clandestine college dedicated to the fine art of murder where earnest students study how best to “delete” their most deserving victim. I'm too young to have understood some of references to pop culture at the time, but they didn't feel condescending as it's often the case.

Who hasn’t wondered for a split second what the world would be like if the object of your affliction ceased to exist? There are kitchen gardens so the food is fresh and there’s an ice cream van to complete the bucolic setting.
